I composed my Nocturne Fantasy for flutist Catherine DeJongh while we were both students at the University of Michigan. The flute is nestled within the lush, velvety textures of the strings, with the harp adding yet more depth and richness to the palette. The piece begins with a quiet, muted opening and unfolds into an outgoing nocturnal journey, ultimately returning to a peaceful darkness.
