My Song of Morning was composed at the request of violist Friederike Latzko as a memorial for her late friend, Hildegard Schwartz, who was also a violist. The resulting Trauerwerk features a solo viola accompanied by a string orchestra and reflects on the complex emotional states—anger, sadness, and grief—that emerge during the process of mourning.
